The Story of the Jackdaw. (30)

Hello Everyone,

This is the story of the jackdaw.
Jackdaws can be very gregarious and are good at taking advantage of us humans. As a child, I had one as a pet which I loved enormously. In adult life, I have not seen that many of them, until relatively recently!

Now, I have noticed them gathering around popular sites like the water's edge in the Lake District, or at the river's edge in the popular town of Hebden Bridge. That is where I captured this very lovely example.

Just recently, they have started appearing in my garden. They are eager to share the 'fat balls' with the tits and the sparrows. They are too bulky to hang on to the feeders like the small birds, but, they cleverly sit on nearby twigs and grab the small, plastic bags that contain the fat balls. In this way, by brute force, they pull the bags (still containing some fat and seeds) out of the holder and onto the floor where they eagerly devour the contents.

I think jackdaws are immensely clever!

I will put a shot into the w/s, showing a jackdaw removing the bags from the feeder.

Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you found it interesting.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.

Bev :-)

This is a shot of a jackdaw next to the feeder in my garden. As you can see, it is cleverly pulling the bag out of the feeder.
It does attack the fat ball whilst still in the feeder but finds the removing of the bags a more profitable way of getting food!
