Here is another view of the juvenile Hooded Crow I posted yesterday. He was sitting at the edge of the bird bath for ages taking little sips of water and finally having a bath. I’ve posted another view in the WORKSHOP where you can see the whole bird bath that Ivan made by carving out a hollow in a limestone. It’s very inconspicuous on our rockery and the birds love it. They do make it dirty though, but it is easy to clean out with the hose. We used to have a pond where we lived before but it is hard work as you must have a pump that needs cleaning regularly. I’ll try to persuade Ivan to make another bird bath instead as the birds are sometimes queueing for this one!!

Another popular way of making a bird bath is to take a large and solid rhubarb leaf and cover it by a thick layer of coarse cement. If you support the leaf underneath the edges you get a nice depth and a very attractive bath too!

I’ve now discovered that this little chap has two brothers and the parents are keeping a close eye on them as they’re exploring the forest floor.

This shot was captured from a distance of 5 metres with the camera handheld. It has been cropped slightly and sharpened.
