White Stork – Ciconia ciconia

The Storks in our wetlands have been succesfully breeding again this year. On Monday morning I went past the farm where two of them have bred successfully and produced three young ones. I managed to get a few captures of two of them as above.

Yesterday morning I was quite shocked when I read in the local paper that the mother of these youngsters had been run over and killed by a car early yesterday morning. The father is now left alone to cope with his young (there are three of them!) and to provide them with food. Fortunately they are now fledglings and should be able to cope on their own very soon.

This was captured from a distance of about 12 metres with the camera handheld. It has been cropped and sharpened.

I've posted a capture of the mother that I took last year in the WORKSHOP.

I posted this capture of the mother last year - you can tell her ID by the rings on her leg.
