This is second trip for our scientific and faunistic works in Gökova Bay. It is very hot and many place dry. At the end of (last) April, I found many bird species in small wetland near coast. Maybe this summer warmer and hotter than previous ones.
Well, I will post some shots from this trip, but I upload one from Ankara, today.
This is Aquila chrysaetos (Linnaeus, 1758) – Kaya Kartalı [TR], Golden Eagle [EN] (FALCONIFORMES: ACCIPITRIDAE).
It is one of five species of the genus Aquila Brisson, 1760 in Turkiye. Other species;
*** Aquila pomarina – Küçük Ormankartalı (Lesser Spotted Eagle)
*** Aquila clanga – Büyük Ormankartalı (Greater Spotted Eagle)
*** Aquila nipalensis – Bozkır Kartalı (Steppe Eagle)
*** Aquila heliaca – Şah Kartal (Imperial Eagle)
A. chrysaetos is 75-88 cm in lenght and with wingspan of 205-220 cm. General appearance is brown, but head is near golden color. English vernacular name was derivated from this feature "Golden Eagle".
It ranges almost all parts of Turkiye, but its populations decrease rapidly in many places.
The photograph was taken near Kızılcahamam (Ankara) by camera on hand. My special thanks to Akif Aykurt (raptorman) for supply this great trip. Both of us also observed Gypaetus barbatus – Sakallı Akbaba (Lammergeier) and Aegypius monachus – Kara Akbaba (Black Vulture) in same point.
The eagle was far and I cropped largely and RAW to JPEG. Another two shots are given as Workshop (WORKSHOP-I, WORKSHOP-II)
