(2814) | One of the most beautiful moths in Portugal.
It is the largest too.
Their caterpillars feed on the foliage of a range of foodplants, primarily fruit trees, such as Juglans regia, Malus, Pirus, Prunus and also Fraxinus and Populus. They have four instars befor becames into a beautiful moth.
The wingspan is 100 to 130 mm.
It belongs to the Saturniidae Saturniinae Saturniini family.
Descovered by Denis & Schiffermüller in 1775.
Is known as Great Peacock Moth in english.
I had the oportunity to create 9 caterpillars from the egg and till now 4 turns into moths. This is one of them. |
