Hello,

Thought i'd post something a bit different today. I noticed this lone Water Lilly floating quietly in the middle of a dark brackish pool whilst out for an evening stroll the other day, at a nature reserve close to where i live called Hengistbury Head. You can see a shot from there in my last post.
In order to get close enough for a decent shot, i had to lean right out over the water with my friend keeping a tight hold of my waste..a bit precarious perhaps, but i had to try to capture it, as i love it's reflection in the water.

Scientific classification:

Kingdom: Plantae

Division: Angiospermae

Order: Nymphaeales

Family: Nymphaeaceae

Genera:

Barclaya
Euryale
Nuphar
Nymphaea
Ondinea
Victoria

Nymphaeaceae is a family of flowering plants. Members of this family are commonly called water lilies and live in freshwater areas in temperate and tropical climates around the world. The family Nyhmpaeaceae contains 8 genera. There are about 70 species of water lilies around the world. The genus Nymphaea contains about 35 species across the Northern Hemisphere. The genus Victoria contains two species of giant water lilies and can be found in South America. Water lilies are rooted in soil in bodies of water, with leaves and flowers floating on the water surface. The leaves are round, with a radial notch in Nymphaea and Nuphar, but fully circular in Victoria.

Horticulturally, water lilies are divided into two main categories: hardy and tropical. Hardy water lilies bloom only during the day, but tropical water lilies can bloom either day or night, and are the only group to contain blue-flowered plants.

Water lilies can be fragrant, such as Nymphaea odorata.

The white water lily, such as the one you can see here, is the national flower of Bangladesh. It is also the birth flower for July.

Hope you like it, thanks for looking...
