Longhorn indeed (20)

Little known backyard inhabitants:
It's time for me to present some butterflies and moths that live and reproduce or at least visit my backyard. This is the fantastic Degeer's longhorn fairy moth (Lepidoptera; Adelidae;
Nemotois (=Nemophora, Adela) degeerella
L; Langhorn- Feemotte). The 5 mm long female has impressive antennae held in front of its body while flying. But
have a look at the male antennae
that are even much longer!
The moth was regularely found on rasberry plants in June but the eggs seem to be deposited in leaf litter.

The male's antennae are even much longer than the females. In such a tiny antenna there are muscle cells, blood and a trachea to bring air right into the tip.
