Today another rather "fresh" picture, taken just few days ago during a bat trip with my colleagues :)
This is Natterer's bat Myotis nattereri (Kuhl, 1817) (Vespertilionidae) (in Polish: nocek Natterera), one of 10 species belonging to this genus known from Poland.
Here are some basic facts about this species:
Distribution: Europe, N Africa and Near East
Habitat: mainly forests and parks, overwintering in caves and cave-like environments
Size: head and body about 45cm, wingspan up to 30cm
Life-span: up to 25 years
Food: different insect species, especially large flies, also spiders (it can collect insect from leaves and tree bark too)
Echolocation: between 23-115 kHz
Conservation status: Least Concern
Etymology: named after German naturalist Johann Natterer
