Well, it's actually done to show how cropping can enhance your work.
I did also very quickly some other stuff in a developer or editor(Adobe in this case) such as contrast, sharpening and so forth. A bit playing with the sliders. Take into account this is done very quickly and there's always room for improvement.
Well this fellow will probably always be ugly;-)
