A Few Colourful Fungi (32)
LordPotty
(12035)
These are a few of the colourful species of fungi I collected in a couple of hours today (well, yesterday now) on the plateau above the Arnold River.
The bright blue ones are the most easily recognisable.
I have posted Entoloma hochstetteri (the Blue Pink-gill or Sky Blue mushroom) several times before.
The pinkish tinted one is Humidicutis rosella, the yellows and the deep red one are Hygrocybes.
The tattered remains of the large purple fungus are yet to be identified.
If I can't find out what it is I will be sending some dried spore samples up to Clive Shirley (The Hidden Forest)for him to examine microscopically.
There don't seem to be quite as many fungi around this year as there were last year at this time, but with the recent heavy rain it is hardly surprising.
Many places are not damp enough for fungi .... sometimes the West Coast can be too damp.
The West Coast has by far the highest rainfall in New Zealand.
In 1997-98 the annual rainfall recorded at Cropp River was 18.4 Metres (60 Feet)!
When these fungi dry out,I will take them up the road to a reserve near here and spread the spores in locations I think they would be likely to grow.
Later on I'll post individual shots of some of them growing in their natural environment.
Hope you like the photo.
Thanks for viewing and for any comments.

I love the different forms and colors of this grouping of fungi. Just needed a bit of brightening without over saturating the colors... but that is just the way I see it. Hope you like the changes.

I added some shadow & highlight to lighten the scene and then vibrance to enhance the colors.
