Long time ago I presented last picture of my favourite insect group, but today I'd like to come back to Cicindelidae saga! :>
Today the 10th part of tiger beetle saga (first nine can be see here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9)
This is a male of Calomera littoralis littoralis (Fabricius, 1787) (size ca. 14mm). It is a halophilic beetle known as West-Mediterranean endemic recorded in Europe only from South parts of France, Spain and Portugal, and in Africa from Northern areas of Morocco, Algieria, and Tunisia.
In Europe 4 additional subspecies of this taxon are known: nemoralis, conjunctaepustulata, fiorii, winkleri.
And as this species is "almost" an endemic to Western part of Europe only, this time something about European fauna of Cicindelidae :>
The species richness of Cicindelidae in Europe
There are some 41 species of tiger beetles noted from Europe, and more that 80 subspecies. As in case of many other insect group, the diversity of Cicindelidae increases when we come from the North to the South.
Three main biodiversity regugia of European tiger beetle biodiversity
1. Balkan Peninsula - 17 species
2. Iberian Peninsula - 12 species
3. Italian Paninsula - 13 species
All these three areas group ca. 95% of all European tiger beetle species and about 85% of subspecies!!!
Just to compare - Scandinavian Peninsula + Great Britain have only... 5 species!!!

Hi Radomir, how's it going?
In this workshop, I've done some basic Post-Production, to compensate for the slight under-exposure, that is, according to the Silkypix evaluation Algorithm. I hope you like it.

Technique: Exposure-compensation in PP.
1. (Auto-) Exposure-compensation (+ 0.83EV Equivalent), according to Silkypix evaluation.
Saved as TIFF.
PP In Photoshop (Elements):
2. (Auto-) Contrast, Levels.
3. Shadows: 1% (To open it up a bit).
4. USM, 0.3 @ 40%, & Saved for web.
That's it!
