This Marbled White was taken on the Chalk Downs of Dorset, Southern England.
Marbled White ( Melanargia galathea ) Wingspan 50mm.
This Butterfly is a variable species and is widespread in grassy areas.
It favours flower-rich, grassy meadows, often on Chalk Downs but also on neutral soils.
This Butterfly has distinctive black and white patterns on the wings.
Slow in flight, often settling with thw wings outspread.
Flies July-August and visits Knapweed and Thistle Flowers.
The Larva feeds on grasses.
