 Eastern Dappled White (70) boreocypriensis

Another dainty white butterfly (1st brood) perched on Brassica napus (Oilseed Rape or Rape) flowers from my archives, which I captured it during Spring season in Çambel village (Kemalpaşa, Izmir). I also attached a WS showing the underside of the wings from different POV.

Eastern Dappled White (EDW) is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 37-50 mm.
The upperside ground colour of the male is white. The forewing has apical black markings, a black rectangular mark at the end of the cell and very small, black lines perpendicular to the costa. The underside ground colour of the forewing is white with green/yellow apical marks, a rectangular black mark at the end of the cell and small, black lines along the costa. The hindwing has a characteristic green/yellow pattern. The female is similar to the male but with larger black markings and the hindwing ground colour has a yellow tinge. The butterflies of the second generation are larger, with more extensive black markings and more yellowish colour on the underside pattern.
EDW is a species that occurs in southeast Europe, the Middle East -including Turkey and Cyprus Island- and central western Asia. The adult butterflies start to emerge in February and are on the wing until June in two generations. It overwinters as a pupa. The larval host-plants are various species of the Cruciferae (Brassicaceae) family. The larvae feed on the flowers and developing seed pods. EDW is very common butterfly and It is much more common in the lowlands and intermediate elevations. Recorded in maquis, garigue, phrygana, forests, agricultural land, rocky areas and river valleys from sea level to 1600 m.
