Scleroderma citrinum

Please note there is a WORKSHOP where the interesting inside of this fungi is shown. It is black and has intense metalic smell.
We have been watching several photos of Lycopherdons and we discovered that we can eat it when it is young and white. But beware, this is not a Lycopherdon, is a sclaroderma and it is toxic:
Some authors call the mushrooms in Scleroderma "earthballs," to emphasize their differences from puffballs. Scleroderma species have tough outer rinds, and Scleroderma citrinum has a rind that is scaly and hard. When sliced, the rind stains pinkish. Inside, the spore mass is initially white, but soon begins to turn dark purple to purple-black, from the center outwards (here it is black from the beginning, the one in the workshop is just cut).
Habitat: Alone, scattered, or gregariously; on the ground or on rotting wood; widely distributed; summer and fall.
Fruiting Body: 2-10 cm across; 2-6 cm wide; round or flattened; the surface hard and scaly, yellowish to yellow-brown, often cracked; the "skin" whitish when sliced but blushing pinkish; sometimes gathered at the base, where mycelial strands may be found.
Spore Mass: Thick and white at first, becoming purple to purple-black from the center outwards; eventually blackish to brownish and dust-like.
Microscopic Features: Spores 8-13 µ; round; prominently reticulate.
Scleroderma aurantium and Scleroderma vulgare are synonyms.

This was about 6 Cm. and found in a Acacia forest.

Hi Filipe, I wanted to show some of the hidden details in this image snuggled against the forrest floor.
I applied the Shadows& Highlights tool found in PS8 (cs).

Image - adjustments - S & H at bottom of list.
with the show extras ticked, you will have a series of sliders in 3 sections in the top 2 there are 3, I find you realy only need to use the top 2 in each section.
In the shadows bit I adjusted both to 45%
then in the Highlights section 55% and 30%
then applied a seperate sharpen edges and fade back to 15% only in Pin light.
