(7453) | The cattle egret is a very common SA water bird. It frequents herbivores, which acts as chasers for the insects, and these birds then catch the insects disturbed by the grazing animals. However, the breed near or on water. There is an unbelievable little wetland right in the middle of suburbia on the East Rand that I stumbled across, and it has fantastic photo opportunities. This picture was taken 100 m off the shore, knee-deep in murky water, with nasty little leeches clinging to my legs. What one will not do to get a picture? These guys fly in, then try to settle on these thin reeds. In the process, they are more off the reed than on it, flapping and moving their wings constantly, trying to get their balance. This is one picture in a series of maybe 8 that I took of this guy doing his balancing act. The D200 and the new lens opened new horizons to me – I just love my new babies.

Hi Callie,
I just read an article in outdoor photographer regarding getting the details out of the shadows. I tried my hand at it and it seems to work. What do you think?
I adjusted the levels, used shadows & highlights (+10) and then color balance (Mid, Blue-10, Higlights, Blue -10, Shadows Blue -10) Reduced noise using neatimage and then sharpened a little.
Please let me know what you think.
Regards
Gerhard |
