Small Lace-wing on Lantana Flower (36) RAP
(7405) | Small Lace-wing (Actinote carysina) on Lantana Flower
This is the most abundant butterfly at this moment in the Ecological Reserve of Buenos Aires.
Also the species Actinote pellenea of very similar characteristics is mentioned for the region.
At some moments, I have seen 4 or 5 flying together ones dancing one around the other... and to few meters other so many.
Like in other opportunities, the information available is really scarce.
The length of this species with its extended wings is of approx 50 to 60mm.
Distribution of the Small Lace-wing ranges east of the Andes, from Trinidad to northern Argentina.
Larvae are gregarious feeders, but split up when they enter their final instar.
Adults prefer open, sunny areas, and are common in disturbed habitats including residential areas.
As Workshop I publish a photo of a fraction of the shrub of Lantana (Lantana camara), also well-known like Shrub Verbena.
This shrub surpasses the 6 meters front by 3 meters of height, growing freely within the Reserve.
In the image a black bumblebee can be appraised that will be published later with greater detail.
