This is a juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbird and from the black markings on it's throat I would venture to say a male. The host plant is Cardinal Flower, the wild version. It was taken at a Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary.

A Canon EOS 1D MKII with a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS lens @ 400mm was used for this shot. 550EX Speedlite with a Better Beamer flash extender was used for fill only as it was a bright day with clouds shadowing the sun from time to time.

Lesley, I cropped the shot get more focus on the bird and less on the flower.
Let me know what you think of it.
