The red fox is found in Canada from coast to coast. Resembling a small, slender dog, it is a shy, nervous animal, and, for the most part, it tries to remain hidden from view. Unlike the dog, it is equipped with furred foot pads.
Foxes dig their three to nine metre long dens in sandy or gravely soil with two or three entrances. They are conscientious parents and remain together as family units until autumn when the pups disperse. Their winter diet consists mainly of small mammals such as mice, squirrels, and rabbits. In the summer months, insects, crayfish, and vegetable matter play a more important part in their feeding habits. They are preyed upon chiefly by coyotes and bobcats.

Brightening of the shadows

I just applied Shadow/Highlight here.
I gave almost 100% on the shadows to give more brillance to the fur and didn't change the Highlight setting to keep the cloudy mood. I could have removed the overall blue cast with Color Balance or Photo Filter, but I didn't since I wanted to keep the cool mood of the overcast day.

To bring out some detail in the dark areas of the fox, a contrast mask technique was applied. Then to do both white balance and exposure correction for the snow, I did an auto-levels on the while image. It is important to do the steps in this order because if the auto-levels were done before the contrast mask, the contrask mask would make the snow gray again rather than keep it white.
