Lovely red (64)

This is a litte experiment. When you look at the picture you will straight away know why :-)
The butterfly is probably a female of Sooty copper (Lycaena tityrus). The name "sooty" refers more to colours of male while females are rather copper. In Poland they are called Lovely red. That's the closest translation I could figure out.
I found this butterfly on the same meadows where I took the three last pictures posted here. Again a low angle with sky in BG and again perfect light allowed me to take picture withough flash.

Hi Monika,
I thought as you were trying to do something different I'd have a go too :-) This is something I learned from motorsport photography. I quite often tilt the camera at an angle when taking the shot, just to add some impact. It's really important to balance the background though, especially if there are trees or buildings there. I tried to maintain a balance here between the main plant stem and the line of the ground behind, as they are the two prominent parts of the BG. Small plants and grass on a hillside often grow at angles so the growth on the ground is not a problem unless it is tilted too far, when it starts to look unnatural. So with that in mind I rotated the image until the plant stem was almost upright and the horizon line wasn't too steep. The rotation puts the dizzy Butterfly a bit more upright and also adds some interest. This is best done when taking the shot, it's interesting to move the camera around and see what you can see. Hope this is helpful.
