The Bee eater and the Pellet (48)

This is a part of the Bee-eater digestive system.

As you know the bee eaters are eating all kind of insects especially bees, when their meal reaching the stomach it has two stages of digestion, the first serves as a filter, holding back insoluble items such as wings, legs and the insects surrounding, only the soft parts are going to pass this filter.
Several hours after eating, the indigestible parts are compressed into a pellet the same shape as the gizzard. This pellet travels up from the gizzard back to the proventriculus It will remain there for few hours before being regurgitated. Because the stored pellet partially blocks the digestive system it must be regurgitated to clear of place for new food.

In the workshop I added a picture of the moment that the Pellet is out of the Bee eater.

I hope you will like those couple pictures.
