The species is protected in South Africa, but I have heard people saying that they run over them with their cars to kill them and take them home for a nice meal.
In Angola they are not protected you can hunt them to eat and aparently they taste nice, but I never did, poor bird...

This bird is also called Guinea Fowl, Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Vulturine Guinea Fowl in South Africa.
