Snow feast (5)

This Darkeyed Junco shot was taken during the same storm as my last posting. Once again he is fluffed up to insulate against the storm, but instead of looking for shelter, he's eating to stay warm. My province of Alberta has four different kinds of Juncos, Slate colored, Northern rockies, Oregon and this one the Pink sided. They feed on bugs, berries and seeds. Juncos range in size from 13-17cm. Not sure whether I should have edited out the snow on his breast.

Hi Rick, I really liked your photo of this cute little bird when you mentioned the snow on his breast I though..hmmm why not. So I cloned out the snow then, removed the noise which gave his feathers a really soft look. added a bit of contrast and increased the saturation just a little. added a border and sharpened up the photo. Thanks for the great photo.

Levels, Hue and Saturation

The original has a overall grey cast caused by the metering taking the whites back to grey, they also lack much detail in the grey. This has also caused the bird to become dull in colouration. I have altered levels, hues and saturation in PS7 to make the snow whiter (although this has casued a further loss of details) but has increased contrast, colour and detail in the bird itself.
