Very small seedeaters. Very colourful but easily overlooked. Most waxbills are ground feeder and often feed in mixed groups on open tracks in thornveld, darting off into the bush at the slightest disturbance. Most species frequent thornveld and all rely on access to water. The common waxbill frequent reedbeds and rank vegetation associated with wetlands. They are constantly on the move.
As the flock flies off in straggling procession the " chik chik ZEE " calls confirm the identity of the birds.
This shot was my most challenging shot yet. The waxbills don't hang around for pictures. Luckily the grass is full of seeds and as such, they have
one thing on their minds " Dinner "
I got two got shots out of 30 as the wind was blowing strong and the grass was thick which hardly gave me any chance. To say the least, I am very happy with this shot. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am proud of it.

| I removed some of the noise. It worked well on the BG, but the wax bill came a bit softer. I used same software to add sharpness. I admit it could be a bit brighter, as Luc did in his ws, but I like this soft green :-). Hope you'll like it. |
