Lichens and stone (38)

In spring we have flowers and fresh green leaves, in summer there are insects and butterflies, in autumn we have fungi and golen leaves, and in winter we have beautiful snowy landsapes. Each season has its beauties and its photographic opportunities for nature lovers.

But this year there is no snow at all, just bare trees and grey sky - so sad ! There is not much to photograph, and I had to look for some time before finding something interesting that would be suitable for TN !

Finally I found these beautiful lichens. They were growing on the ruins of a medieval castle (we have lots of them in Alsace), on a very famous stone called "Grès des Vosges". It is a pink or orange stone, and it is very common in my region - it can be found everywhere, and it has lots of different uses.

If you want to see another picture of this stone you can have a look at my WS, the shapes are quite interesting.

A for the lichens, they are very common on this stone, but I have no idea of their name. I just loved the shapes and the colors, and they look beautiful on the pink stone. It is a very simple picture but I hope you will like it !

Grès des Vosges

This is a beautiful example of what happens to the Grès des Vosges when it is exposed to rain and wind - nature carves the most beautiful patterns in the stone. I was quite amazed the first time I saw this, but in fact it is quite common. I though it was interesting enough to show it here, as stone also belongs to nature...
