Another photo taken while fishing. There was a summer storm gathering, the light was softened. This mother mallard and her young had entertained us for close on a half an hour. The sweet corn and hemp seed we were using as bait had attracted their attention. We could have reached down and scooped up the ducklings, they had no fear of us. As the storm moved in the mother gathered up her young and disappeared... then the skies opened up.
I like this photo for the patterns in the water caused by the ducklings diving and dabbling. The picture looks static at first but on closer inspection there are two ducklings in motion. My only regret is that the duckling on the extreme right is diving out of the frame.
I ran this through Paint Shop Pro Photo XI using Smart Photo Fix, adjusted the brightness/contrast levels and then sharpened a bit to bring out more detail around the mother duck's head and to pick up the light reflected in her eye. |
