Stob Dearg (1022 m) (42)

Back from my wanderings again.... This time camping in Scotland all of last week. As you can see the weather was stunning - clear and cold and very bright. -12C was the coldest it got overnight, cold enough for the methylated spirits to freeze and for me to use 4 season gas instead.

Anyhow, this was the first time I had used my UWA lens in earnest and the 105mm circular polarising filter to go with it. As you can see, this was taken at 10mm (I've included the orginal uncropped version to show the point) but there is no vinegretting at the corners which I was really please about. This had been one of my main concerns with this lens, but with sufficient advice, I have eneded up with what I needed - so thanks to all those who gave that advice - you know how you are and this one is dedicated to you as a thank you.

What you are looking at is a frequently climbed and even more frequently photographed mountain. I am fortunate enough to have done both. In the past though I have had to take 2 shots and stitch them together...

Stob Dearg (Gaelic translation = Red Peak, 1022 m) which is what you are looking at here, forms one end of Buachaille Etive Mor ridge which stands guard over the entrance to Glencoe on the Glen Etive side. Stob Dearg is Munro number 110 in a long list of Munros which are all around Scotland.

Converted from RAW, taken using a tripod (and water proof boots!), picture was cropped and sharpened. It remains otherwise uneditted, the colours are totally real.

For me it shows the winter beauty of the upper moors of Scotland and colours which are not normally seen by most visitors.

PS I have resisted the urge to tilt this photo because I know what you are seeing is correct. May be I should have straightened the apparent horizon, I don't know...
