Great photo! I'd like to make a correction... The scientific name of the North American red squirrel is Tamiasciurus hudsonicus. The name Sciurus vulgaris is the European red squirrel.
Let's see if I can identify the critter... Well, the mouth looks too big to be a squirrel's, so... Probably a southeast Asian tree shrew; I'm guessing genus Tupaia.
Adorable squirrel. Looks like an African bush squirrel (genus Paraxerus), rather than a ground squirrel (Xerus).
This is a prairie dog, not a marmot. But other than that, this is a very nice photo of an adorable creature.
Great photo of a Richardson ground squirrel. I have two of these as pets.
What a beautiful photo! I have to go there one of these days.
What a beautiful critter! But photo subject is a meerkat, not a prairie dog.
What a beautiful photo! Very handsome marmot.
What a beautiful critter! But photo subject is a meerkat, not a prairie dog. Meerkats are in the mongoose family, order Carnivora; whereas prairie dogs are in the squirrel family, order Rodentia.
