Hello Bob!
I remember getting pelted with these in the river valley of the Danube in Vienna when I was a little boy. The trees are very tall, and getting beaned when they drop out through the leaves like hail sometimes would hurt!Interesting note about poisonous: they are very bitter, so nobody would eat them, but we did make crafts like chains and little figures with the use of toothpicks.....

He looks very funny - if such a bird didn't exist, Jim Henson would have to invent him!

Interesting close-up and conversations about the ID. For me, it is a great picture regardless whether we can name it. I love the details.

Hi Peter! You have so many beautiful shots of butterflies, you could be filling several books. Your notes are very informative. This one is exceptional in its intricate details and precise focus!

They should be called 'nutty' - I've seen a similar one in my neighborhood (Canada - a look alike? so far up north) hammering on a lamp post! What a racket!
Nice capture with great details and color.

Interesting, inasmuch coyotes are found in close proximity to humans in my area. Where I live, they keep the stray cat population down. I used to come home from work early mornings and on a few occasions had to avoid hitting some on the road.....
Nice sharp capture.
