More inclined to say it's a mature male black tailed skimmer, but it a very easy mistake to make. Great effort....Ade
I must have spent hours chasing these little critters around whilst I was recently on a wildlife holiday in Crete, suffice to say I never got an image anywhere near the quality of this....Stood out head and shoulder about the other images on the thumbnail section, which is why I felt compelled to make a comment.
Well done Joe, speaking as a bit of a specialist when it comes to dragonflies, I'd have been proud of this shot. If you want some constructive critique, I'd have used just a slightly smaller aperture so as to bring the back wings just that little more into focus. I still feel had you had done this the background would have been blurred enough not to distract. The lighting is also a little on the harsh side, but that couldn't be helped my friend.
It's all to easy for me to sit here and criticise the shot, but all I'm trying to do is pass on one or two tips. Essentially though there isn't an awful lot wrong with the shot and it deserves all the credit it has so far recieved, well done to you!
I used this lens for macro work myself and have to admit I was rather surprised, especially if used with an extension tube. Good work.
Seem to be plenty of them about this year, but none the less it's still a good macro capture....
Now you mind you don't get Vince from the BOC chasing after yer!.....LOL
Cracking composition and all in all a wonderful shot....well done to you!
Excellent capture Peter, the DOF/POV is maybe a little off especially on the tail, but with all that glass, I'm surprised you've done as well as you have.
I've images of both species and as you say the differences are very subtle I must admit, but fairly easy to distinguish to the experienced eye. I especially like how you've set the focus on the eye! Top capture Sir!
Been trying to get a very similar shot myself with the same species would you believe, so can apreciate the difficulty this shot presents....As a record shot, I'd be more than happy with it.
Well fancy seeing you here Matt, bit of a cracker here mate, what superb timing!
Talk soon mate....Ade
