fungus

boninense Ganoderma, Pat., 1889 is a basidiomycete fungus, with complete basidium. Fungal parasite of living plant tissues, is a fungus of the order of Aphyllophorales. Mushroom primitive, without foot, its fruiting bodies are covered with a very hard crust, shiny red and the tubes are arranged in layers clearly separate from the flesh.

The fungus grows primarily on the Arecaceae (palm and coconut). It causes damage that can be dangerous (almost every palm tree attained is sentenced to death inevitable; in plantations, the life of the farm may be threatened).

It is a soil fungus, which infects by penetrating palm root system and propagate by roots contact from one palm to another.

It was originally identified and described by N.T.Patouillard, who was the initiator of the modern classification of basidiomycetes in general and, in particular, the individualization of group polypore true.

The shot was taken in oil palm plantation, near Kisangani, mid afternoon.

The camera is set to aperture Priority mode with a sensitivity equivalent to ISO-200. Given the modest illumination, the opening was set at f/5.6. With a focal length of 8 mm., speed was calculated at 1 / 56 th.

Bonjour Philippe,
Fantastic macro of a tropical Ganoderma species I've never seen before. Sharpness, colors and compo are second to none. However, the current scientific name is Ganoderma orbiforme (Fr.) Ryvarden. Thanks for sharing this species (I think the 1st time on TN) and for teaching me something new.
Friendly regards, László
