Slide taken with a Nikon F3 in September 1985, in the wet plain of Kipopo, near Lubumbashi capital of the Katanga province.
Slide reproduced with Nikon bellows PB-6 and reprodia PS-6
Lightly sharpened under Nikon Capture NX2
I did identify this plant as Crinum amoenum
Crinum amoenum belongs to the plant family AMARYLLIDACE and Genus Crinum This plant specimen likes wet soil and is a native of India and I was very surprised to find it in central Africa !
The flowers tend to open all at once and are short lived
Crinum amoenum has never been reported in Africa and now I ‘m not too sure about the identification I did 25 years ago !
As someone an other idea ???

Bonjour Albert,

Hi Albert

I found this Link and this Picture and here on the internet which suggests it may be Crinum purpurascens, which does occur in the Congo. The style is certainly purple in your picture. (But it also looks very much like Crinum pedunculatum which we get here in south-eastern Australia).

Regardless, it’s a brilliant shot and a superb copy from a slide. I have tried shooting this genus here and getting the stamens to stand out requires a perfect background, which you have achieved in this shot. Excellent sharpness.

bonjour Albert

Hello Albert,
A gorgeous flower very well captured. I think I've seen the same of similar species in gardens in Singapore. Excellent sharp capture with all stamens in focus!! I like the dark green leaves too.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Albert,
I've missed this beauty because of a short holiday. Wonderful clear and contrasting colours, despite of a slide from 1984! Great sharp details and a very good composition.
