African Green Bee-eater (Merops viridissimus)

M. v. cleopatra Nicoll, 1910 Nile Valley in Egypt and (probably this race) N Sudan.

Feeds mainly on Hymenoptera, also beetles, termites, bugs, moths and many flies, ranging in size from fruit-flies (Drosophila) to large clegs; also a few butterflies, crickets, dragonflies, spiders and caterpillars. Hymenoptera comprise 75% of diet in Africa. Hunts from perch on fence, small thorny tree or sometimes the back of grazing cattle or antelope, making sallies low over vegetation.

Hello Emin,
Beautiful photo of this bee-eater, but this is not the Merops viridissimus. To me this is the Little Green Bee-eater, Merops orientalis. Splendid light and excellent sharpness.
Regards,
Peter

What a good moment and picture. I like the title and the combination of color and background. It make mi smill. Congratulation.

Very nice, sharp, excellent lighting, well blurred background. I think it is an excellent idea to show a bird that seems at ease in the human world. The crop and pose are perfect.

Hi Emin- another well captured Green Bee-eater. I like this picture, despite of man made object in nature photography. Excellent BG, as well as good light on subject. Natural colour and catching light on eye made it attractive. Thanks for sharing. Regards and have a nice Sunday- Srikumar
