Cauliflower jellyfish (Cephea cephea).

They grow up to 15cm across and the umbrella has about 30 tubercles on top and about 80 marginal lappets. You'll find it in open sea above or close to coral reefs.

I'm a little confused myself about this picture. It has a complete black background with a shutter speed at 1/50 of a second and itís no night dive. It's pretty early in the morning and I'm deep down (40meter) actually looking for Hammerhead sharks (with macro lens on). The yellow colour I think comes from a friendís halogen lamp which has a bright yellow beam. And I also had the flash set on low power and itís not much natural light down there at 6.30 in the morning.

Iíve resized and sharpened the picture in PS before that Iíve adjusted the white balance and contrast in RAW.

Dive site is Habilli Ali in St John's Marin park

Hope you like it.

This composition is simple and wonderful. The jellyfish is superb and its contrast on black background works well. Thanks for sharing Peter.

Very nice shot!
Beautiful colour, excellent background.
Well done and thanks for sharing!

Peter, This is really great love the image, the colours and the sunject. At first I thought it was a night dive picture, but your notes are very interesting....

Great Shot, looks like flames coming from the bottom....

great shot Peter. TFS

Great photo of the rarely see world Peter. The photo is definately captivating with it's wonderfull colours against the black backdrop. Do I understand correctly that you wanted to take macro photos of Hammerhead sharks? You must have some courage and nerves!

I think the black BG has worked very well even if it was not intended. It really emphasises the jellyfish and the loneliness of the shot. The detail in it is brilliant. TFS
