The second photo of this bird, the Thick-billed Raven, corvus crassirostris.

Endemic to the Abyssinian highlands. A very large, 60-64 cm, black corvid with a massive, white-tipped bill and a fairly small white nape patch. Is easily distinguished by its enormous bill, long tail and white head markings.

Habitat: Mountainous areas, especially 1500-3000 m; also around settlements and in cultivated areas.

Status: Common in its range; usually in pairs, but flocks gather at rubbish dumps.

Voice: Grunting ‘gwrrrurrr’or ‘harr-harrr’.

merhaba peter
its foreign and beautiful species for me
i like pose, POV, blurred BG and details

Hi Peter,
It's an unusual bird to me. I have never seen such particular specie! Its beak is very strange. This is a nice capture with good exposure on the black which show details on its dark plumage and the pose with his head turned shows us a nice catch-light in his eye. This bird might not be easy to calibrate with this white patch on his head. I have tried a little WS to see if I can ameliorate contrast. You'll be the judge... Thanks,

weer een bijzondere foto Peter,
goede capture, van weer een bijzondere vogel, in ieder geval een goede voor bij de verzameling.
prettig weekend.
groet Jaap

Hi Peter,

It's always such a pleasure to see your unusual and amazing looking birds. This thick-billed Raven fits right into that category. I love the pose - that is some profile. The black plummage is wonderful with very fine details. If I were ever to see one I would recognize it by the white patch and that strange beak. Great shot and a nice composition.

Hello Peter,

Your photo is very interesting showing an unususal bird for me. Image is sharp showing well the plumage of the bird. As you have used well the light there are many grey color tones on bird's feathers showing them well.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Peter. You can see where it gets its name from. You have taken this from a good POV so we can see all the details in the feathers. with natural colours. well done tFS.

Hi Peter

Another beautiful close-up of this Thick-billed Raven.
It's really an impressive and also a bit odd looking bird, but lovely nonetheless. The details and slight iridescence you've got here from its plumage are exceptional and the shallow DOF that you used here made sure that the bird would nicely stand out from the scene.
Good work!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Peter,
These ravens are really very impressive with their special shaped head and their wonderfully displayed plumage. Good decentred presentation and interesting pose of the bird. A little lack of contrast with the surrrounding, which has been corrected by Claudine in her WS.
Thanks for this interesting picture

Hi Peter,
Certinly not a nice guy, but you captured it profile well. It has a stout beak, I never see a bird with such kind of mouth.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Peter,
I missed this fine capture of this impressive Raven, the Thick-billed. The POV and pose present it superbly against the contrasting OOF natural BG and thcomposition on the tree stump is excellent.
Thanks for sharing this fine image of a Corvid that i have never seen in real Life.
All the best,

Hi Peter,
That's beautiful bird. I have seen species with the bill almost the same shape in the Amazon. Very good details on the plumage and a very nice POV. TFS
