[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Mandji Island, Gabon.
The hippos are supposed to be all gone (well killed would be more appropriate) on the island of Port Gentil, but as I was driving a 4WD car on the beach a sunday evening, I saw one and its baby (not visible on this picture). It strolled around the car (not that close atherwise I would have droven away !) and went to the sea with its baby. After 20 minutes, it went out of the sea, but alone. Maybe it was a strategy to hide the baby hippo ?

Très bonne gestion de l'exposition pour cette photo en contre-jour. Ton cadrage est (à mon gout) un peu trop centré. Ta note est agréable, belle histoire (espérons qu'elle s'est bien terminée)

We can only hope, if most of them have been killed, I would hate to think that the baby drowned.

What a great photo and an amazing experience for you.
Its fantastic to see this - river beast - in such an unusual situation.
I have just been watching a documentary on the Gabon, which featured these hippos and the other wildlife that comes down to the seashore from the forest.
So I thought I would look on TN, to see if I could find any photos and yours was one of the first ones that I saw.
Excellent photo, lovely light and a great setting.
