[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Lilac-breasted Roller, Coracias caudataus, is a member of the roller family of birds. It is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula, preferring open woodland and savanna; it is largely absent from treeless places. Usually found alone or in pairs, it perches conspicuously at the tops of trees, poles or other high vantage points from where it can spot insects, lizards, scorpions, snails, frogs, small birds and rodents moving about at ground level. Nesting takes place in a natural hole in a tree where a clutch of 2–4 eggs is laid, and incubated by both parents, who are extremely aggressive in defence of their nest, taking on raptors and other birds. During the breeding season the male will rise to great heights, descending in swoops and dives, while uttering harsh, discordant cries. The sexes are alike in colouration.

What an amazing bird - the colors remind me of the punk look back in the '80's. I love the eye color, the plumage, the composition, and the sharpness. Your information is good as well. :-)

Espectacular ave, un colorido verdaderamente impresionante, la encuentro un poco ajustada y creo que un formato no tan cuadrado le sentaría mucho mejor.

Hi Stefan,

What a stunning looking bird, those colours are just beautiful, excellent eye detail, also very good detail in the plumage, well framed and composed, really nice work t.f.s this beauty, all the best,

Cheers Rick :)

Hi Stefan.
What a cute bird your managed to catch with help of your super telelens. I am impressed with magnification. May be shot is not extreme sharp however, details and colouration are reflected very well and exposure is great despite the contrast subject. My best wishes and TFS.

Hello Stefan,
One of my favourites in Afrika. I've got a lot of photos of this Roller and seen it many times, but not one is so good as this one. Sharpness, DOF, colours, pose and composition are gorgeous. I'm jealous.
