AFRICAN BUSH ELEPHANT:
The African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the larger of the two species of African elephants. The African Bush Elephant is the largest living land dwelling animal, normally reaching 6 to 7.3 meters (19.7 to 24.0 feet) in length and 3 to 3.5 meters (9.8 to 11.5 feet) in height at the shoulder, and weighing between 7,000 and 10,000 kg (15,000-22,000 lb).
Less known fact about elephants:
THE MIRROR SELF-RECOGNITION TEST:
Considered an indicator of self-awareness, mirror self-recognition is limited to humans, apes, dolphins and elephants only.
Visible marks are applied to the elephants' heads. Elephants are exposed to a large mirror. They spontaneously use the mirror to touch the otherwise imperceptible mark on their own body.
Clever. Aren't they?
THE PIC:
He might look dead but he is only sleeping.
Note that udders are between forlegs (not hindlegs). A nipple can be seen on my pic.
A very cute baby sleeping in the same pose can be seen Here
PP work: cropping 80%. Removal of a dropping with clone brush.
Thanks for looking, J

Hi Jean-Marie,
She was obviously enjoying her sand bath and then fell asleep.
Great focus....one can see the folds of skin clearly as they fall over the tusk.... also interesting note.
Well done.
