The impala is found from northeast South Africa to Angola, south Zaire, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya.
The impala is found in woodland which contains little undergrowth and low to medium height grassland. Also a close source of water is desired, however is not needed when there is abundance of grass.
Mass: 45 to 60 kg (99 to 132 lbs)
Impala are sexually dimorphic. Only the males have S shaped horns that are 45 to 91.7 cm long.
Both sexes are similarly colored with red-brown hair which pales on the sides.
Most breeding occurs in March through May.
Female impalas are reproductively mature and conceive at 1.5 years.
Males have the ability to breed at age 1, but often do not establish territories until age 4.
Impala are diurnal and spend the night ruminating and lying down.
Impala have different social structures depending on the season.

This is a female (no horn)
At such a small distance (2m) the glossy fur of impala is magnificent. I don't know any other animal with such a glossy fur. I wish the beauty of it would appear on the pic. It doesn't. Your only chance to witness it is to go on a safari yourself. I fully advise Kenya.
The hord we saw was made of one territorial male, 20 females and 20 bachelors. The bachelors were as big and old as the territorial male. This male was quite busy keeping the bachelors away, in a circle around the female, at short distance but never within the females. I guess bachelors are the first to be taken by the predators.
No PP work.

Thanks for looking,

Bonjour Jean-Marie,
Excellent capture of a female Impala with a fine pose and taken from an interesting POV that allows the overhead light to highlight the contours of the animal in a pleasing way.
Fine sharpness and composition.
Well done and TFS!

Hello JeanMarie

This reminds me of one of my photos I took of a white-tailed deer fawn. The pose and composition is lovely. The eye contact is super.Excellent focus and sharpness. The details are sharp. The POV is excellent.TFS

Thanks for pointing out the fur. I image that may be a result of the need for speed. My son has a greyhound. Everything on that dog seems designed for speed. Even the direction of the hair. Excellent image.
