African Buffalo

The African Buffalo or Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large African bovid. It is up to 1.7 meters high, 3.4 meters long. Savannah type buffaloes weigh 500-900 kg, with only males, normally larger than females, reaching the upper weight range. Forest type buffaloes are only half that size.[1]The African Buffalo is not closely related to the slightly larger Wild Asian Water Buffalo, but its ancestry remains unclear. Owing to its unpredictable nature which makes it highly dangerous to humans, it has not been domesticated, unlike its Asian counterpart, the Domestic Asian Water Buffalo.

A great image with the little birds sitting on the Buffalos back.
Obviously very tricky light to work with that day.
I like the details of the patterns on the horns and the moist looking nose.

Hello Tom,
Pretty close to this animal. The Masai people call it 'Black death', you know. But this unpredictable bovid is posing very well.
You showed very well the quality of this 300 f/2.8.
I'm a bit puzzled about the blurred oxpeckers?
The bokeh is wonderful though.

Very beautiful photo in excellent sharp details. Great natural colours. Excelletn POV, DOF and composition. The two Yellowbilled Oxpeckers are a big bonus.

I love this close in the face image. The very close approach displays well on the screen. This is a great portrait with details clearly seen, especially the fine hairs alongside the buffalo’s ears, the wet snout and the texture of the horns. I also like the blurred out oxpeckers as a part of your background. Great image with buffalo looking right at the camera. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
