Phymateus saxosus
This multi-color grasshopper is the most dramatic of all. Yellow dots are set off by a grey-green background on the forewings, contrasted by the bright red found on the hindwings. This stunning hopper is truly a case study of colors.
It is thought that the Phymateus saxosus flashes its brightly colored underwings to scare away predators.
Also called Malagasi locust.,these insects measure more than 10cm
Phymateus saxosus belongs to the Orthoptera Family, which comprises all grasshoppers. Their biological cycle is favoured by particular environmental conditions that can increase their reproduction rate. An example of how numerous certain grasshoppers can become can be found in Africa, where in some areas they are so many that they can obscure the sun. After these enormous swarms have passed away, only the bare earth is left, since they eat everything vegetable.

Hello Albert,
Superb close-up with incredible detail and nicely blurred background. Well done.

Hallo Albert,
Hartelijke groeten,
Peter

Hi Albert.
It truly is amazing and nicely coloured grasshopper. I am impressed with superb sharpness of details and great colour reproduction. Pictured scene is very cute at whole. Twigs create a nice composition. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.
P.S. After you question about shooting distance to crow I have found that EXIF-file of D700 contains focusing distance and DOF. It was 8.41 m. Now I see these data of the shots and study optimum combination of distance, aperture value and DOF on actual scenes.

Hello Albert,
Mooi licht, goede belichting, mooie 'multicolor' springer, etc.
Groeten,
Annick
