Hello my Friends!
June is a month with a lot of field work (practices with students, ect.) so first of all - sorry for lack of comments to your interesting presentations and lack of answers for your emails :>

This is a Moorish Gecko or if you prefer a Common Wall Gecko (Tarentola mauritanica (Linnaeus, 1758)) (Gekkonidae) (in Polish: gekon murowy, tarenteola), one of 5 species from this genus known from Morocco.
The 4 other Tarentola are:
- Tarentola annularis GEOFFROY DE ST-HILAIRE 1827
- Tarentola boehmei JOGER 1984
- Tarentola deserti BOULENGER 1891
- Tarentola ephippiata O’SHAUGHNESSY 1875

Tarentola mauritanica originaly is known from Costal Mediterranean regions of Portugal, Spain, Italy (incluging Sardinia), France (including Corse) Balearic Islands, Malta, Madeira, Montenegro and Croatia. It was noted also from Adriatic islands,
Greece (including Crete). In Africa it was recorded from Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.
Interesting is that this species was introduced also in Uruguay and California in the USA.

Tarentola mauritanica is actually divided into three subspecies:
- ssp. fascicularis - known from Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt
- ssp. pallida - known from SW Morocco
- ssp. juliae - known from Morocco

The picture was taken at 11:30 p.m. in Tifnite village, Souss-Massa National Park. The gecko was hunting for insects on the tree trunk.

If you like to watch geckos, please feel free to look also here and here :>

And last but not least I would like to dedicate this picture to geckos' lover and my very good friend - Steve (LordPotty).

Hi Radomir

Good night shot of this gecko, and the use of the flash, not so strong or flat..
fine details and composition.

Hello Radomir,
A perfect night picture. The gecko is well seen in natural setting. TFS.

I do believe the darkness gives it character. What do you think? I would not suspect to see this in daylight much and it would have an entirely different feel...good show!
