This lioness belonged to the same pride as the two males I posted some time ago. The pride consisted of two males and four females.

When I spotted the pride, the lions were resting and inactive and after an hour or so the females became active.
The two males were rather laggardly lions.

From wikipedia
Should they survive the rigors of cubhood, lionesses in secure habitat such as Kruger National Park may frequently reach an age of 1214 years whereas lions seldom live for longer than 8 years. However, there are records of lionesses living for up to 20 years in the wild. In captivity both male and female lions can live for over 20 years. They typically inhabit savanna and grassland, although they may take to bush and forest. Lions are unusually social compared to other cats. A pride of lions consists of related females and offspring and a small number of adult males. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator, although they will resort to scavenging if the opportunity arises. While lions, in general, do not selectively hunt humans, some have been known to become man-eaters and seek human prey.

Thanks for looking...

Hi Annick,

You have caught this lioness with a very alert pose as if she has spotted prey ahead and is moving into position for a kill. Very good detail and exposure and also a healthy looking specimen.

Hallo Annick,
Wanneer ik deze foto zie kan ik ook alleen maar aan Afrika denken. Wat een prachtfoto! met die gespannen kop. Perfecte details en een uitstekende compositie. En zoals altijd schitterende natuurlijke kleuren.

Out she goes for a kill ! No need to see the prey !

Hi Annick. This is one of the best close up pictures of a female lion i think i have seen. The way she i getting ready to hunt with a low done walk. And eyes fixed ahead. Great detail and such natural colours. I am going to put this into my favorites. Very well done TFS this beauty.
