[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The only Rufous-crowned Roller, formerly Purple Roller (Coracias naevia, German: Strichelracke) I saw. Sitting on a thorny bush in Etosha National Park.
The largest Roller in the south african region and easily identified by its broad pale eyebrow stripe and lilac brown underparts streaked with white.

From Wikipedia:
Compared with other rollers its colours are rather dull and its voice rather harsh and grating. Its preferred habitat is dry thornveld where it spends long periods perched at the top of thorn trees or poles, watching for food items such as insects, spiders, scorpions and small lizards on the ground. It rocks to and fro about its longitudinal axis during display flights, calling raucously all the while.

Hello Pierre,
Although the BG is a bit noisy, this is a beautiful photo. The Roller in very beautiful colours and a very nice pose. Good sharpness and DOF.

Great picture of this roller in natural habitat.Nice and sharp, good detail in the feathers.

Well seen and captured Pierre. Not your usual standard but still a keeper. BG a bit noisy and you have a sharpenning halo around the bird. Maybe a large crop?

Your composition is good in this post. I also value the DOF, BG, lighting, sharpness and detail of the subject.

Hi Pierre,
beautiful photo of this bird. Amazing natural colours and nice composition.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Pierre - Once I saw this "Rufous- crowned Roller" in Kruger National Park, but I couldn't capture due to the distance. I like the way you have captured it with splendi color and sharpness. Nice BG....Thanks for sharing. Best wishes - Srikumar
