Sossusvlei is a clay pan in the central Namib Desert, lying within the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia. Fed by the Tsauchab River, it is known for the high, red sand dunes which surround it forming a major sand sea.

The Springbok (Afrikaans and Dutch: spring = jump; bok = antelope or goat) (Antidorcas marsupialis) is a medium sized brown and white gazelle that stands about 75 cm high. Springbuck males weigh between 33-48 kg and the females between to 30-44 kg. They can reach running speeds of up to 80 km/h. The Latin name marsupialis derives from a pocket-like skin flap which extends along the middle of the back from the tail onwards.

Hi Annick

Lovely shot of this Springbok.
The warm light and the rich colours bring out the beauty of this nimble little antelope.
Seems like you enjoyed your Namibian visit.
Some day (I hope) I will still find the road that will take me to that beautiful country.

Thanks for the good wishes for 2009 and the same to you and your loved ones.

Well done and TFS
Best regards

Hi Annick
Wonderful composition with lovely warm rich color and fine crisp details.
I hope you have a great 2009 taking lots more splendid shots like this one.tfs jon

Hi Annick,
great shot with excellent sharpness and such beautiful colors.
TFS and a happy new Year!

hello Annick

Needless to say, the thumbnail already jumps out at me with this wonderful color tone of the desert sand. I find in particular the layer of rolling red above the yellow grass layer to be a winner for contrast, coupled with the nice capture of natural light on the springbok.

Good springbok placement in this composition, especially waiting for the moment of the head turn back.

I am puzzled why the shadow of the springbok appears to be so short?

Good bokeh. AND Happy 2009 to you and yourr shooting [with camera] of springbok.

tfs, bill

Hallo Annick,
Schitterende foto in rood-bruin. Alles vormt een geheel. De Springbok staat hierin gewoon mooi te zijn. Prachtige pose met die gedraaide kop. Uitstekende scherpte en compositie.

Hi Annick,

Excellent shot of this Antidorcas marsupialis
Beautiful animal in beautiful country. Wll done!
TFS. Regards. Ferran

Hallo Annick
Striking image of this lonesome springbok male at Sossusvlei. Beautiful moment captured with the buck looking back at you. It stands out well against on the image. I like the three layers of elements and colours captured and shown in this image. The brown gravel and stone in the foreground, the yellowish grassland in the middle and the warm reddish-brown colour of the horizon that blends in with the sky. A combination of lovely colours taken from a painter's palette and mixed it together in one prominent landscape. Thanks for all your valuable contributions from your side to the site.
Best regards.

A fine looking delicate antelope in a warm looking scene Annick, fine effect indeed in these cold weathers my friend!

Superb photo. That three layer background with such fabulous colours makes it look as if you framed your photo and then just waited for something to walk on to it.
