Sorry that I could only visit TN on and off, but I have been experiencing a lot of problems lately to access the TN site due to modem and connection problems.

This is the last upload of the “Three Elephant Bulls”, “Cooling down”, “Mud bath” and now the famous “Dust down” before they again disappear like ghosts. This was all captured at the Chudop waterhole in Etosha National Park in Namibia.

Elephants have a ritual when bathing. They will always (except when they have travelled far – 100 km or further) approach a waterhole in a almost slow motion, stop and observe, then quench their thirst, drop down in the water or spray their bodies to cool it down, spend a little time in the water, just stand in the water as if time has stopped and then leave the water hole and spray their wet bodies with dust as a protection against insects. I was lucky and sweating profusely to capture this whole ritual. Sorry that the dust spray is a bit cut off, but when the leading Elephant Bull was approaching my vehicle, my last thought was to capture the last step in their ritual. He was about 25 meters away when he stopped and I grabbed the camera again from my wife’s lap to take this shot.
Enjoy and comments are welcome.

Hallo Carl,
Perfecte timing. Genomen vanuit een prima standpunt.

Hello Carl,
Do elephants also sweat? I honestly do not know. But you were very well rewarded for your sweat. What a great activity image. Another question - does he rinse his trunk after this exercise or does he move off with it lined with dust gone mud on the inside? A really great image. Well done once again. Best wishes.

wow I love this! Every single dust speck has been captured here. Good evening Carl. Nice to see you back! I would say as well, perfect exposition with beautiful highlights and shadows. The white balance also looks fine. Impressive color gamut and clarity. The old 20D still has an impressive punch! Bravo! Thank you for your comments of my Jackal picture! Appreciate it!

Bravo, Carl.
Amazing scene and top quality image. Fantastic clarity, perfect details and nicely selected DOF. Colours are also sweet. Timing is spot on. Well done and best wishes.

Hello Carl,
Remarkable capture with exceptional clarity and focus.
Outstanding composition, sharpness and fantastic details.
The contrast against the background is superb.

Hi Boet,
What a fantastic action shot. Fantastic detail and clarity. Elephants are the most fantastic creatures to me. They powder themselves with the dust for protection against insects. It has always amazed me that after they've had a water bath they have a dust bath and to us humans it just doesn't make sense but the elephant knows better. Stunning Boet. I'm looking forward to your visit.

Hi Carl,
A wonderful moment to witness the action with one's eyes. With such fine photo, I also enjoy the moment very much. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Carl,
Great shot. Good colours and the sense of moving gives dynamic to the photo.

Ciao Carl. TFS this iteresting situation. DOF and sharp are excellent so like contrast and details. Very good light.

fine composition in a wonderful moment, I like the great performance!
regards Carl

Hallo Carl
