Lucky Ring-necked Dove 4.

I want to post a real wildlife scene (which consists of five photographs) I witnessed at the Chudop water hole in Etosha National Park. Technically it is far from perfect but I think well worth sharing an experience in nature. It was taken at 07:50 AM from a distance of 98.3 meters across the waterhole and in fairly bad light conditions.

Number 1.
One morning I saw this Jackal circling the waterhole while literally hundreds of Ring-necked doves were drinking water. When he saw that a Dove is occupied quenching it’s thirst, he would stop, crouch and go for the prey. On occasions he was lucky and sometimes he came up short and that is why I call these five uploads “Lucky Ring-necked Dove”.

Number 2.
When the Dove noticed the Jackal, the jackal lunged forward towards its intended prey, again before I could focus on him or the Dove.

Number 3.
The Jackal caught its prey by the tail feathers as the Dove tried to take off.

Number 4.
The Dove straining forward in its bid to escape loses half its tail feathers as the Jackal hits the water with a splash.

Enjoy and comments are welcome.

Hallo Carl,
Prima actie foto. Inderdaad geen perfectie, maar zeker de moeite van het plaatsen waard.

Hello Carl

The sharpness on the head of the Jackal
is excellent, your POV is showing how the
Dove is escaping from the dramatic situation,
the splash on the water with the Jackal's
glance on the escaping Dove it is giving
dynamism to the image, TFS

Good, sharp action photo, and I add your work to my theme "animals feeding" although it is "nearly feeding":-)

II love the flying water drops typifying the rush of the action.

Thanks for sharing, greetings from South Africa Ingrid
