[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In Senegal there arent much mammals in the wild. But there are three species of monkeys: Baboons, the Green Monkey and the Red Colobus. This is the Green Monkey. I saw them running between the cattle...strange. The photo is taken while this monkey was sitting in a tree. "Photographers are boring".

The Green Monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus), also known as the Callithrix Monkey, is an Old World monkey with golden-green fur and pale hands and feet. The tip of the tail is golden yellow as are the backs of the thighs and cheek whiskers. It does not have a distinguishing band of fur on the brow, like other Chlorocebus species, and males have a pale blue scrotum. Some authorities consider this and all of the members of the genus Chlorocebus to be a single widespread species, Cercopithecus aethiops confusingly, the name "Green Monkey" has also been used for this single species.

Range, habitat and behavior
The Green Monkey is found in West Africa from Senegal to the Volta River. It has been introduced to the Cape Verde islands off north-western Africa, and the West Indian islands of Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Martin, and Barbados. It was introduced to the West Indies in the late 1600s when slave trade ships travelled to the Caribbean from West Africa.

It occurs in a wide range of wooded habitats, ranging from very dry Sahel woodland to the edge of rainforests. It is also commonly seen in coastal regions, where known to feed on seashore foods such as crabs. It also takes a wide variety of other foods, including fruits and invertebrates. As other members of the genus Chlorocebus, the Green Monkey is highly social and usually seen in groups.

Hi Peter!

Looks like paradise for every dentist :-) But seriously - excellent timing and great scene. I've never seen this specie.

Hello Peter, how are you?
As I a ahve a ultra slow inet connection at the moment, I had to chose one photo from oyur gallery looking at the thumbs only. This one stands out very much!
It is a beautiful photo, the accurate exposure helps a lot with the details on dark parts, composition and time are lovely. Not only impressing but also interesting subjetc.
Best regards, Felipe.
