Another NEW BIRD FOR TN: The Long-tailed Glossy Starling.
Another species than the Glossy Starlings from East and South Africa.

The Long-tailed Glossy Starling, Lamprotornis caudatus, is a member of the starling family of birds. It is a resident breeder in tropical Africa from Senegal east to Sudan.
This common passerine is typically found in open woodland and cultivation. The Long-tailed Glossy Starling builds a nest in hole. The normal clutch is 2 to 4 eggs.

This ubiquitous bird is gregarious and noisy, with a harsh grating call.

The adults of these 54 cm long birds have metallic green upperparts, violet underparts and a 34 cm long purple tail. The face is black with a yellow eye. The sexes are similar, but juveniles are duller, with a brownish tone to the plumage.

Like most starlings, the Long-tailed Glossy Starling is fairly omnivorous, eating fruit and insects.

Ciao Peter. Good sharpand details with magnificent bird's colours against the environment.

This guy is realy glossy, I love the different blue-tones so much - also this pose.
He seems to be angry and is shouting with ... perhaps his wife? Haha.
Congrats for the new ID - it's realy not easy to have a new specimen on this forum.
Thanks and have a nice evening

This Starling has a presence alright, Peter. The long tail does impress one as a special feature of this species featuring on TN for the first time. One gets a marvellous impression of its plumage from your perspective.
Many thanks for sharing it.

Saludos Peter: J. Ignasi.

Hello Peter,
This one has a very striking plumage and you caught it well with this very interesting pose. A very beautiful composition and a natural shot. May be a little bit more sharpnening or contrast could have made this picture even more striking.
Kind regards

Les couleurs sont très éclatantes, et la posture de l'oiseau nous laisserait penser qu'il en insulte d'autres
