[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is one of the smallest butterflies I have ever seen. It is the Topaz Blue (Afrikaans: Hemelbloutjie) Azanus jesous jesous with a wingspan of 22 – 25 mm. It is usually found near Acacia trees.

These are swift fliers and I could not get closer to it as it was on the slimy stuff in the middle of a pond. Being top heavy I had to lie on my tummy reaching over the pond.

I had to crop this quite a bit to get this image, but liked the shadows on the floppy wings. I’m not sure if is a youngster , but the wings were not firm as that of a adult butterfly. Can anyone shed light on this?

I used NI to remove some background noise

No light from me, only few words: it is a very interesting capture. The slimy stuff raise the beauty of the butterfly.
A great work!

Can't help with your question I'm afraid. I'd guess it was a newly emerged but I can't be sure. Good shot Japie, lots of detail and a very nice subject. Well done.

Estas mariposas pequeñas y de coloración tan clara siempre son complicadas Japie.
Buen POV con excelente colorido y DOF.
La agudeza es muy buena tambien.

These butterfly small and of coloration so clear always be complicated Japie.
Good POV with excellent colorful and DOF.
The sharpness is very good also.

Japie, I like this! What makes this shot unique are the shadows seen in the wings that almost look like they are torn. I shot a similar sized butterfly that was extremely busy, moving constantly, making it a real challenge. I enjoyed your notes on the chase. Great post!

Nice macro Japie.
It's a beauty.
Good colours and compo.
Time for a set of ext.tubes ? ;-)
Well done.

The mud looks like hard cooked toffee. Excellent composition. I am glad that you got it too. I know in what position I was so I can imagine you on all fours. :) Nice shot Japie. TFS.

Very good Japie. Nice detail and good colour compo. Well Done.

What a nice shot good details, good note, Thanks for sharing.

Nice shot with good details and a nice compo with the front and back plane with different tones. Be careful with the USM and dark subjects over light BG, some "halo" is beggining to apear in this one.
