It is hard to imagine that Ostritch chicks can be so small. Looking at the little one it is almost hard to imagine that they are one of the few birds that will and can attack and kill a human.

The shot was taken in the Rhino and Lion park, and the little ostriches decided it would be good fun to walk in front of the car. So we had to slowely creep along to get them to move, without having the protective parents kicking dents in the car.

Their scientific name Struthio camelus comes for the greek for sparrow camel. :-)

They can run at speeds of up to 65kg and weigh from 90kg to 130kg. In the wild they live in groups of 5 to 50 birds and lead a nomadic existance. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrich)

Ostrich meat is very healthy to eat and almost tastes like bovine.

Personally I like the shot because of the way the chick is framed. To me it draws the attention to the chick, probably hoping to grow big and strong like its father.

Interesting shot, Johan. I have never seen baby ostriches before. They are amazingly small next to their parents. I like the way you framed that chick with the adult's body. Great POV and composition. Well done and TFS. : )
